Flag Stop Festival

The Point Artist-Run Centre presents the 1st Annual Flag Stop Theatre & Arts Festival on Saturday August 11, 2012. Beginning with the typical Saturday afternoon at The Point featuring singer songwriters, the Book Shop Cafe and the art show in the heritage lodge, the Flag Stop Festival will begin by showcasing performances developed throughout the summer workshops.

In the afternoon, the kids will perform their music and theatre creations on the floating stage, with their jewelry and other works on display in the lodge. A special lantern-making workshop will be held for those interested in taking part in the evening lantern boat procession or sending their lantern out on someone else’s boat to watch from the shore.

At 6pm the ticketed part of the festival kicks off with the official reception for this summer’s TRACKS art show. Enjoy a glass of wine or beer with some appetizers while taking in the eclectic show and chatting with the artists.

Out on the floating stage, Whistler’s first improv theatre sports league will begin the evening entertainment. This will be followed by the debut performance of Stephen Vogler’s play, Agnes, featuring Lilli Clark, Angie Nolan, and jazz musicians Simon Stribling and Lauri Lyster.

The show carries on with musician, improv coach and Expressive Arts instructor Aude Ray performing Suitcase of Dreams. When dusk dissolves into night, the lantern boat procession will wend its way across the water to The Point before Simon and Lauri’s 1920s and 30s swing jazz band fills the dance floor to top off the night.

Tickets are only $18/$15members for this incredible afternoon and evening of some of Whistler’s finest cultural creations. Tickets are limited due to the size of the lodge so be sure to purchase them early.
